The themed reception focused on Nguyễn + Nareswari’s research about rice during their residency “beras.cơm” in Yogyakarta, displaying the cycle of rice from its origin (rice plants from local paddy), showcasing our collection of rice adaptations in different markets and Nguyễn’s playful kitchen creations as a research result.
Local delicacies and small bites were served, namely the rare artisan made jadah manten (lemper wrapped in thin omelette) in Jogja, imported rice produces sold in markets in Berlin, and confectionery in cốm (young green rice) flavor, branded as Hanoian specialities.
Reflection of the research process on local food scene was realized into Nguyễn’s homemade dessert from gudeg (Jogja’s jackfruit stew) ice cream, blue jasmine pudding to es susu tape (iced milk and fermented rice) pudding.
